ZeRO SL Mk II has been designed to give you complete control over your music making software. We have worked with each of the main DAW manufacturers to make sure each of the 56 knobs, faders and buttons control the things in your software that you need them to control. However, the really clever bit is that SL MkII can directly control your plug-in instruments and FX. The control surface is almost identical to the SL MkII keyboards, but it has longer throw faders (60mm) and a central crossfader. Lightweight and bus powered, it is already a firm favourite with performers.
ZeRO SL MkII comes with Automap Control Software
What is Automap?
Automap is a piece of software that comes with all Novation controllers. It has been designed to make the job of assigning your hardware controls to various software parameters quick and easy. In Control
Automap enables knobs, faders and buttons to instantly control plug-in instruments/FX, as well as your sequencer's mixer, transport controls and more…
Click, touch Its assigned!
Open a plug-in instrument/FX, and you have instant access to all the plug-in parameters. This allows you to assign knobs, faders and buttons, by simply clicking on the software parameter, and touching the control!
Ableton Users
Ableton worked with Novation to update the SL Mk II, making it the only comprehensive Live controller with a keyboard. All Ableton's major controls are instantly assigned to SL Mk II's 56 knobs, faders and buttons. The changes mean that controlling session view, mixer and devices is quick and easy, because you'll never lose track of what you're controlling:
• Live's devices are already assigned to controls as you load them up. Open 'Auto Filter' and instantly see 'cutoff', 'res' etc, on the LCD screen above each knob, along with their current values (as well LED rings around each encoder).
• Comprehensive mixer control: Touch a fader to see the channel name and volume level on the large LCD screen, and the two buttons underneath will be lit up if the track is activated or record enabled.
• Launch scenes with the SL's buttons. You can also set up a row of 8 backlit buttons to launch clips (which light up if the clip is playing).
Logic 9 Users
SL MkII is now fully integrated into Logic 9!
• Full mixer and transport control; control volume and send levels, as well as mute and track arm channels from the SL MkII
• Logic's own plug-in instruments and FX can be controlled instantly with SL MkII's knobs, buttons and faders. When you load up Logic's (which one?) plug-in compressor for example; threshold, ratio, attack and release times are already assigned to knobs. If you want to move them, you can reassign them with one click, or drag and drop them in Automap's software edit page!
Pro Tools Users
• Full mixer and transport control; control volume and send levels, as well as mute and track arm channels from the SL MkII
• All Pro Tools' plug-in instruments and FX (RTAS and TDM) can be controlled instantly with SL MkII's knobs, buttons and faders. When you load up a plug-in - Channelstrip for example - EQ freqency, gain & compression threshold, ratio etc. are already assigned to knobs. If you want to move them, you can reassign them with one click, or drag and drop them in Automap's software edit page!
Reason/Record Users
As well as full transport control, SL MkII controls Reason/Record in three different ways:
• Mixer Mode: You can lock the SL MkII to this mode which gives you access to all the mixer channels and allows you to control volume, mute, pan, and solo. You also get detailed control over the master channel.
• Channel Strip Mode: This gives detailed control over a single channel at a time, including compressor, gate, EQ, filters and inserts, as well as FX sends and levels.
• Rack Control: SL MkII will give you detailed control of all devices and combinators, one at a time (including the 14:2 & 6:2 mixers in Reason).
Cubase/Nuendo Users
• Full mixer and transport control; control volume and send levels, as well as mute and track arm and solo channels from the SL MkII
• VST plug-in instruments and FX can be controlled instantly with SL MkII's knobs, buttons and faders (VST 3 support is currently being developed). When you load up a plug-in - VST Dynamics for example - threshold, ratio, attack and release times are already assigned to knobs. If you want to move them, you can reassign them with one click, or drag and drop them in Automap's software edit page!
Sonar
• Full mixer and transport control; control volume and send levels, as well as mute and track arm and solo channels from the SL MkII
• VST plug-in instruments and FX can be controlled instantly with SL MkII's knobs, buttons and faders (VST 3 support is currently being developed). When you load up a plug-in - Vocal Strip for example - all the EQ, compander, de-esser, and doubler controls are already assigned to knobs. If you want to move them, you can reassign them with one click, or drag and drop them in Automap's software edit page!
